Washington DC: Legacy Survivors in Retail, Restaurant, and others

Greetings! I am working on a project for the DC Preservation League on Legacy Businesses: retailers, restaurants, hotels, and others that have been around for more than 20 years. The criteria includes: -must be located in Washington DC proper (sorry, Bethesda!) -must have opened up at least 20...

    The Official-ish DC Thread

Depends on the particular government, but in most cases a Prime Minister is below a President or a monarch. Trudeau was the head of government of Canada, while Queen Elizabeth II, through her Governor General, is the head of state (and Boris Johnson is the head of government, QEII is the head...

    The Official-ish DC Thread

You won't get that answer on a public forum (I deal in international trade issues...). Interesting guess. She would have been a bit, but not impossibly, mature for my taste back then, but there is no way I could imagine the wife of Pinochet at Studio 54!

    The Official-ish DC Thread

I definitely was dressed 'differently.' Having grown up in New York City I went to the Mud Club, Peppermint Lounge, Pyramid, and of course spent my 16th birthday at Studio 54, making out with the wife of a head of state! Yes, you did lead a sheltered life...but sometimes a quiet life leads to...

    The Official-ish DC Thread

Thanks for pointing this out. I am tied up on a project so won't make tonight but, having lived in DC 1981-1985 I spent too much time at 9:30 and a few other punk-like places (usually dressed in suits from Britches of Georgetown!).

Blue shoe polish / separate brush

Papado gives some good advice here. As far as brushes I agree with him; i err on the side of caution though, NEVER mix dark and light (so I would have one for neutral), but also keep the color families separated (for instance, I consider Mahogany to be in the burgundy/red family so I would not...

    tailors in the DC/Maryland suburbs

For what it is worth, I find that the DC thread tends to carry many casual conversations and thus makes finding specific information to be difficult. This is unfortunate as there is lots of good information on the thread, but with over 3000 postings searches are difficult (and unthreaded).

What are some of the best non European or American ready to wear brands?

Vienna: Mid/upper level menswear is very abundant in the Austrian capital. Quality is very high, workmanship is flawless, and pricing is fair for items that will last a lifetime. Here is a good overview...

    Jacket too short?

I am very conservative in my tastes (jackets should come down to the knuckle of the thumb in my closet) but even taking that into account I think the jacket is too short.

Enzo Custom - Truly Custom Menswear - Affiliate Vendor Thread

Thanks for the contributions to this thread, from both the consumers and from “Mr Enzo”. The lengthy review https://journal.styleforum.net/enzo-custom-review-rethinking-the-limits-of-made-to-measure-suiting/ is probably the most comprehensive, literate and honest critique of a piece of...

Best Cobblers in Washington, DC Metro Area?

Based on a 10 year old recommendation on here, I had a pair of Alden cap-toes recently resoled at Fortuna’s in Bethesda. The person taking in the shoes was very impressed with my shine and maintenance regimen which indicated that they do know quality (and that he knows how to stroke my ego!)...
