    Wearing suit unbuttoned during presentation?

Having the coat unbuttoned during more physical activity is perfectly acceptable. It also gives the appearance of a man of action (gets things done) as you move about. Keep the pants buttoned though.

I'm balding and I'd like some advice for a new hairstyle

I was there at 18 but in denial until 32. You did what I should have done by that age. I thought I would have hair transplants like William Shatner if I could afford such. But, having grown my hair out for the first time in decades, it was so hot! I think I shall just stay shaved from now...

Is the gap between Americans and Europeans too vast?

Clement Ader(French), 1890. The Wright brothers are now being touted as the first "controlled" powered flight.

Is the gap between Americans and Europeans too vast?

When I was a child, the snowbirds coming down here to Florida would wear black socks and sandals. Things have change nowadays. It is white socks now.

    Gentleman's pocket knife

I too carry an Opinel No. 8 and have since it was gifted to me in 1984. It has the carbon steal blade which gives an aged look about it but it is still an elegant piece. Keeps a razor sharp edge as well. I see that Opinel puts out collector's editions with exotic woods that sometimes look quite...

Why are notch lapels considered improper for tuxedos?

Why are notch lapels considered improper for tuxedos?

Notched lapels are okay. If I was getting a rig, I would have them if it was like the Prince is wearing. The biggest difference I see in the picture is Prince Philip is wearing trousers and a jacket that are cut as a black tie affair. Obama is in a black business suit with some trousers needing...

How do you feel about classic accessories like cufflinks and tie bars? Do you own any, and if so, do you wear them often?

I have a collection of vintage cuff links I enjoy wearing. Never a tie bar though, as if I am in a suit, I have on a vest. My brother did give me a 1960's skinny tie Frisch's Big Boy tie bar as a joke birthday gift, so I do own a tie bar.

    The Suit Deserved to Die

Would the Brown or the Chili Allen Edmonds Cordovan sneakers go better with this suit? And is it more casual or formal to have the suit neck open so people can see my gold neck chain? https://www.nordstrom.com/s/glen-plaid-track-jacket/7046355...

Rate the style/layout of this home

It is the typical modern take on a Spanish Revival home in Florida. The floorplan is fine. The biggest problem I see is the main architectural feature being a bevy of garage doors. That is also a typical feature now here in Florida, but it is a heinous design sin. Personally, I want a home, not...

I'm balding and I'd like some advice for a new hairstyle

I was at your point in 1999, at the age of 32. I had been balding a while. A friend's wife told me to "just shave it all off". I did and have been ever since. It took some getting used to, but I cannot even imagine having hair all these years later. Hats will be a requirement for sun protection.

    Tie Width Wimp

Most of my ties are 3.5, but as you, I got one from eBay that turned out to be 3.75. It bothered me at first, but when I wear it, I honestly can't tell the difference. As breakaway01 previously stated, with a jacket "(as you ought to)", the .25 will be unnoticeable, as I have discovered for myself.

Classic Style has hardly changed in a century

I guess we could consider jeans, t-shirt and baseball cap folk dress in much of the rural US now! Will it be seen as such a hundred years from now? Will there be historic reenactors wearing reproduction John Deere baseball caps at agricultural museums? I do actually find these questions a...

Classic Style has hardly changed in a century

Hobos, and the poor in general would wear cast offs from the social classes above them. They may be a decade, or three, out of fashion, and worn/dirty, but still better dressed back then as compared to what I see when I go to Walmart or even downtown near the capitol building. Clothing is...

    Paying my 'school fees'

I have a Japanese seamstress I rely on exclusively for alterations. She specializes in weddings but takes care of other issues outside that. No beating around the bush, she will speak her mind openly and forcefully. I have learned to listen. She is always right. I inherited my Father's Harris...

    The Suit Deserved to Die

I live in a rural area. I have been to weddings and funerals where cousins will have bought a new t-shirt, or flannel shirt, and a new baseball cap to pay their respects. Their fathers and grandfathers had suits. I have seen the pictures. My recently deceased Uncle C was buried in his business...
