Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

Skin stitch was not available in cordovan (crup) in the past. What you are essentially ordering as a MTO is a Montpellier in crup. Drake’s has stocked this model recently, as have EG. No need for a MTO.

You will be happy with the length. The tricky part with this style is the potential tightness across the full strap. They are cool!

Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

The Barksdale is basically a modified Winchelsea. This model was offered by RL off and on when they sold Edward Green shoes; it was most frequently available in Edwardian, as well as dark oak, black, and suede. The skin stitch is limited to the very tiptoe of the shoe vs the Winchelsea, which...

The Piccadilly in dark oak looks awesome.

Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

The Winchelsea is slightly different, as it has stitching (sometimes called foxing) along either sides of the heel. Those are another excellent variation on the skin stitched loafer theme, which also includes the Buxton and Harrow, etc. They even do butterfly versions with the pie crust and...

In my experience, that is not accurate. I would definitely call EG to confirm what they are and are not willing to do. Nevertheless, there are third party shoe repair shops that can do the job as well.

These are different and better than the regular RLPL Barksdale pattern, which had a skin-stitched split toe, but lacked the pig bristle pie crust stitch around the vamp and toe. This pair resembles EG’s Sloane, probably on a 100 or 101 last. While the Blake resole job on this pair is a...

Those look awesome as they are. I would seriously consider keeping them with blind eyelets.

That’s the surface polish cracking. Remove the burnishing polish and the cracking will go away.

You will have considerably more room with the Harrow on the 61 last. I’m wearing Piccadilly loafers on the 184 last today, and while they look great, I wish I had put on my Harrow loafers today instead; the vamp and taper of the 184 is far more restrictive and narrow than the 61. You will lose...

Edward Green Appreciation: Pictures, Info, and Where to Buy

The typical last on the Piccadilly is the 184. It is not nearly as generous as the lasts used by C&J for the Boston. The 184 is relatively slim and has far less room in the toe box, which is more tapered, compared to many other EG and C&J lasts.

I am convinced now more than ever that there is nothing rare about these shell colors that were made less regularly at points in the past. I recall when those old color 4 shell boots were in stock at The Shoe Mart, and there was no frenzy for them. In 2020-2021, Alden and Horween just dropped...

I like the Dover in Utah. But the color of these is so dark that it lacks some character and interest to me. I would wait for a lighter color that has more visual interest.

The unofficial Drake's London Appreciation Thread

I find that the quality of some of Drake’s items—tailoring, shirts, jackets, other clothing—is not of the same impeccable caliber as their ties, scarves, and accessories. It’s alright. They have certainly staked out a unique house look of studied casual style. However, I find the quality to...

The unofficial Drake's London Appreciation Thread

If you want a traditional Fair Isle vest, google Jamieson’s of Shetland. Also, try Ben Silver, William Lockie, O’Connell’s or other traditional retailers. Drake’s knitwear is largely rebranded goods at hefty markups, the sizing/fit of which has been slightly (or not at all) altered. For the...
