The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I got married 2 weeks ago today. I wore a morning coat for the ceremony and switched to a dinner jacket for the reception. Really quite pleased how the outfits turned out (the wedding itself turned out even better). The dinner jacket is exactly how I wanted; at first glance bog standard, but...

I guess I’m just too adverse to combining brown with black and the abalone looks brownish in the photo.

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

My wedding is approaching and I have procrastinated getting a set of studs. I like the look of this abalone set by BB, but is it going to look too clashing next to a black lapel? Bit too close to brown?

The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

I am getting married in October and had previously asked for recommendations regarding a morning suit. I rather last minute decided to commission a dinner suit to wear to the reception, so a stop was made at my tailor today. SBPL, black, grosgrain facings, no vents, no flaps, no cuffs. Excited...

Thank you so much for the answer! I find it odd that such a destructive process would be traditional. I suppose the thought is the laces will conceal the holes, especially when laced straight bar?

Jokes about beautiful wives and friends aside, what is the reason why a maker would punch additional holes in the upper to hold the facings instead of just using the lacing holes?

Yes, I was surprised too. Although I suppose that is actually favorable since I still intend on having toe plates put on them. I imagine having the rows of nails in this case would complicate things more. Oh well, I’ll see what they say in the morning.

At the risk of being dog piled on (even rightly so!), I took receipt of my first pair of Cleverely's today. Happy with the fit. A few finishing blemishes that aren't great, but won't be there in a few months. Biggest issue was the lack of the requested toe taps...so these will probably be going...
