Does anyone work in politics or the media?

I've always been interested in the media and politics and I am wondering if anyone on here works in either of these fields? What is a good way to learn about careers in these fields? I have a lot of professional experience (12+ years) in technical sales and engineering and I have a Mechanical Engineering degree from a top school, but I have always been kind of a news junkie and more interested in news/politics/media more than anything else and I am interested in making a career change.
