I'll buck the tide and say La La Land. The opening sequence is great, but it immediately descends to bad singing, mediocre dancing, and terrible dialogue. The only thing it has going for it is good clothes.

The Mummy is getting pretty bad reviews. That's a bummer as I was hoping it might be a good popcorn movie.

I was driving home yesterday and some afternoon show people on one of the channels on SiriusFM literally walked through the entire story from beginning to end. So I guess I know what happens now. I think the radio people were doing it as a public service to keep people from going to see the movie.

The Mummy just didn't work. I like Cruise as an actor (a lot) but here's a guy in mid 50's clinging to roles he best performed in his 30's and early 40's. Normally it doesn't show as in for example Edge of Tomorrow or more recent MI films but it really did in this case. The story simply didn't have it and the special effects/CGI were not very special either.

I miss his more in depth roles in movies that included action but had character development and interesting story lines such as Minority Report, Last Samurai, Collateral etc. That thought actually occurred to me while watching the film.

I would not say this was a horrible film but I would definitely spend my cash elsewhere if viewing a film in a theatre as opposed to home.
