I so, SO wanted to like History of Byzantium, but that guy’s voice is horrible.

My favorite podcast of all time is History of English (language) - the guy who does it, Kevin Stroud, is an amazing teacher. He starts with the Indo-Europeans and is up to Chaucer at this point.

I recommend History on Fire, especially the one on Otzi the Iceman. The narrator is Italian and it took a few minutes for me to get used to his accent, but his perspective is great.

Very interesting because I think he has great podcasting voice. Very soothing. I fall asleep to it often. Seriously.

It’s also that make reconnections of people, places, and events to prior people, places, and events in his narrative. All of these things are almost completely unknown to me, so I am very interested in learning about it, but it’s all just too tedious to follow with the way he presents it. On the other hand, History of English is just fantastic in contextualizing what is being discussed.

Some friends were talking about a podcast in which some New Yorker writer investigates the rumor that the Scorpions’ Winds of Change was secretly written by the CIA to promote democracy or some such thing.

Evidently it’s a bit of a letdown because it’s hard to come up with a satisfying ending for for an investigative piece when the conclusion is, “nah, that’s just a bunch of goofy bullshit”.
