The State of Black Tie: Your Observations

All this talk of jackets off at weddings has little to do with Black Tie or age - its simply that most men never wear classic tailoring. To most men these days a suit of any kind is almost a costume. Men take their jackets off in droves because they are poorly fit, poorly made, uncomfortable...

Was off getting Cottonseed meal and saw this Shishigashira ... Monrovia is one of the better growers around here and this guy has nice size. $160... had to grab it at that price.

@Gibonius That Mikawa went into the ground in October 2020. It came at a pretty decent size, height wise, but still in a ~1gal pot. From Conifer Kingdom in Oregon. That bed is indeed sort of singular at my property composition wise. It is on the north side of my house and very close in to the...

Nuccios is a multi generational world renowned grower of azaleas, camellias, and rhododendrons. They have originated dozens of varietals and carry hundreds if not thousands of the above plants. Varietals that carry the same name are seldom the same across growers. If you search for Iveryana...

I mentioned them above my list! Coral Bark and Bloodgood are the easiest for So-Cal. Emperor 1 w/ some attention. Mikawa Yatsubasa grows well, as does Kuranai-jishi and Shishigashira. Weeping ones are much harder, but not impossible with shade. My favorite azalea varietals: Red - Sun - Hino...

Not sure what's down there but could visit the Huntington or Storrier Stearns Japanese gardens in Pasadena for inspiration. I think you definitly need a pine somewhere. I'm always a fan of azaleas. Nuccios Nursery in Altadena is world famous and has 100s of varieties. Not long for this world...

Where are you located? Definitly seems rigid for a Japanese style. As @double00 says, Japanese garden is about thoughtfulness. Seasonality. Use of materials and plants. Rock, sand, moss, and water are all parts. I generally don't ascribe to the idea that you can only use Japanese or Asian...

NV is much better than either 3 or 4. Different studio and mindset. No question it's better. As a warning...the Interplay Fallouts from the 90s are very opaque. And very violent. (They all are, but for example in the new ones the kids are invulnerable. They def arent in the old one). And old...

What are you drinking right now?

Been experimenting w/ flips. This is a Porto Flip (whole egg, Pierre Ferrande Cognac, 20 Year Tawny Port). Got some nice foam. Couple glass by Kimura Glass of Tokyo. First iteration I would describe as actually very good.
