General Information

Material
Japanese Twill Cotton
Colors Available
Moss, Gunmetal, Golden Khaki
Immediately after launching our denim collection, we began work on an item that's easy to imagine but extremely difficult to find: a slim chino with an excellent fit, great construction, and phenomenal fabric. We wanted to translate the precise specs of our Smith jean into a sharp cotton chino trouser that can be worn casually or dressed up. After six months of development, we're thrilled to introduce the EP's Rivet Chino! Crafted in Los Angeles of a gorgeous UK Pima cotton twill, we're confident that these chino trousers are in a league of their own.

Like the Smith jean, the Rivet Chino is a classic slim-straight fit that's not "skinny." It has a medium-low rise and a small leg opening which works well with proper shoes, boots, and trainers. The front and fly close with gunmetal donut buttons. The pockets are crafted in rugged hickory-stripe cotton twill. A hidden front coin pocket is perfectly sized to accommodate a few cards and some cash, thereby doubling as a mini-wallet.

Pros: Fit, quality of construction
Cons: slightly faster wear
The Japanese Twill in gunmetal was my first pair of Epaulet Chinos. As usual the fit is spot on and the construction is great. The fabric is very soft and comfortable. Perhaps because of the softness of the fabric these seem to wear a little faster, I'm getting some denim style fades in places.

These are my go-to casual pant in the fall.

Pros: Quality, Cut, Value
Cons: Drape, Color
Epaulet's rivet chino is a staple item. The gunmetal color is very popular and almost instantly sells out upon restock.

I had to stalk the discussion thread to get myself a pair in a popular size. The first thing I noticed out of the box was that the material was considerably softer than I expected. This is the softest twill I've seen on a chino. This definitely affects the draping, since it drapes more like a pair of trousers than a pair of denim. Personally, I prefer a more rigid chino, but I know the softness is very well received. :nodding:

Next, the quality is noticeable. The material, lining, the rivets, the stitching all impress. I've only had it for a few months, but I can definitely see this piece lasting.

Lastly, the color. This is a very popular color, because, I can imagine, most people already have a pair of navy and khaki chinos and they want something different--but not too different. I would have liked a more greyish color, but the chino appears more olive.

As for the price. It's obviously more expensive than mall brands, but significantly cheaper than SF-approved brands like Wings + Horns, BoO, Unis, etc. I will definitely be in the market to pick up another pair in the future.

Great review, Dbear. I agree with everything you wrote. Realizing it's a matter of opinion, I like the color of the gunmetal. It's interesting to me because it appears to have different casts in different lights, varying from gray to green and even blue.

I agree, it's subjective--I can definitely see people ranking the color as a pro. I tried to take the review from my own point of view and be as critical as possible. Simply because it would be quite boring to rate it (along with most Epaulet items) 5 stars with no cons.

Thank god you posted this review, Dbear. I see an olive tinge in the gunmetal as well, but everyone that I’ve asked has told me that it “just looks gray” to them. I was starting to think that I was mildly color blind or something.

what's the weight on these guys, is it more of a fall chino or you can wear it in summer?
