I would like to send some thank you notes to former colleagues of mine....ideally I would write them by hand, unfortunately my writing looks like that of a a third grader, maybe fourth if I am focusing. Obviously the alternative is to have them typed/printed. Has anyone done this before? Dos? Donts? Any insight is appreciated.

I'm of the opinion that such a note MUST be by hand. And I'll be honest, I pay little to no attention to the writer's penmanship. It's what s/he says that counts.

Cursive writing is a lost art these days. Many schools don't even teach it.
It's rarely seen other than for signatures. If you are able to print neatly,
that would be appropriate.

The thought behind a thank you note is what matters. Who cares about the quality of your writing? If you're that insecure about it, perhaps write more slowly and carefully so its halfway respectable?

I fight that battle all the time. Terrible penmanship, even when I take it slow and use a fine fountain pen.
Whether I type it out, or handwrite, I always use quality paper - Southworth Granite is my stationery of choice.

I hate reading cursive. I'd type it and sign it with blue ink.

This is late, but OP, as long as it's legible, I'd write it by hand. I have nothing against printed notes, but they do lose some of the charm. Just go slower, and you'll be fine.

Either way, let us know how it went!

A fine fountain pen doesn't guarantee good penmanship. Just sayin....

Indeed it doesn't but I find that it makes a nicer stroke on the paper. Plus, I simply enjoy the tactile experience of writing with it, which makes
me want to write a bit more carefully...

Don't forget paper with watermarks on it.
