RULES: Post your holiday gift giving experiences, traditions, questions, and suggestions.

Mine: I guess it's that time of year again. I have used up a good deal of my work day drawing up a Christmas gift spreadsheet for family since we are expecting to have a big group this year. The siblings don't regularly by each other gifts (we are all over 30 now) but since I will have some nieces and step-nieces in attendance I figured it'd be a good idea to certainly buy the kids gifts and maybe something for the couples (my sisters and respective husband/partner), and a sister's mother in law.

Any suggestions for gifts for teenage girls (16-18)? Any suggestions for interesting stores in NYC, DC, or online to visit for eclectic gifts under $100? Most of the guests are want-for-nothing so I'm also open to edible ideas that can will take up shelf space temporarily. What about gifts a couple can share? So far I'm thinking a portable/travel diffuser for one couple that travels a great deal, and a contemporary art book for the other.

Feel free to also post your own holiday gift giving experiences, traditions, questions and suggestions.

I’m a grad student so my budget isn’t too big but I’ve had success giving my female teenage cousins gift cards to ulta or one of those holiday packs they put together.
Also i gave a few people (old uncles and aunts) copies of atlas obscura; fun, readable coffee table book.
