This was pretty spectacular. I gave it a one hour decant, but from the moment I opened it, huge warm climate Syrah notes were just permeating things. Had it with homemade naan and shawarma with grilled lamb chops.

Fruit was all dark and stewed, also toss in stewed rhubarb. Some mint/eucalyptus on the nose and palate. Tannins fine and resolved.

Must have been in neutral oak as not a hint of any vanilla or baking spice.

Really a powerhouse.

Only wine, nothing else. It’s a lot of old people (it’s for a 100th anniversary) so I don’t expect more than 2 glasses per person, and some won’t drink at all and I think it’s only a 4 hour event. I’m leaning towards splitting the difference with what Piobaire suggested and what I originally thought so 75 bottles but maybe go to 100 bottles, will have to get more intel on the guests and the true total expected.
75 is probably fine (maybe even less - depending on the crowd)

Just opened this after a long 36 holes of golf today at Kingsbarns and Dumbarnie Links. About 13.5 miles walked and, uh, quite a few hacks at the ball in steady 20 mph winds. I fvcking hurt in places that I didn’t even know I had places.

Previously, a few pints and a very large steak and ale pie at The Criterion, voted 2nd best pub in Scotland last year.

The Saint Andrew’s students are massing for Gaudie, where they parade around town in their red gowns with torches, then get piss drunk all night and jump into the ocean fully clothed at sunrise tomorrow morning. Apparently honors some 19th-century former student who heroically swam out from West Sands to rescue crew from a sinking ship.

@Piobaire

I met an American “travel influencer” at the bar of Panda and Sons and he asked me for a proper local drink. 🤷‍♂️

Glad I turned on the threak to Babs. Don't forget to see if there's any room in the Clarice club. He's keeping that to 1k members.

Had a Jack Creek Cellars Pinot for dinner. It's never going to be mistaken for one of the world's great Pinots but highly enjoyable. Their products are all well priced and I highly recommend for quaffable and varietal typical bottlings.

$1K/case is a hard sell to my wife. Already going behind her back to add the zip line option to our kid playhouse that is being built
