I was inspired to start this thread today while I was I reading that Sumi Chang, the owner of Europane in Pasadena, who we have known since both my wife and I were at Caltech in the early 2000s, and who baked our wedding cake and attended our wedding in 2005, just solld her bakery after over 2 decades.

She made a date tart with a pate brisee and a delicate custard that was killer and a regular weekend treat for me.

Anyway, I hope the best for her, but Pasadena will not be the same without her.

I baked a tarte tatin yesterday. I've tried my hand at these every couple years for maybe thirty years. This was my best ever. The crust was a little thick; my wife said the crust is delicious so who cares?
