I just googled stroopwafels and realized I've been eating them for years and didn't even know what they were. My wife's from Wisconsin so I get exposed to all this exotic fare.

In December 2019 I was in Amsterdam for work. Naturally, stroopwafels were everywhere. On the day I checked out of my hotel the desk clerk tried to push more stroopwafels on me. I said no thank you. She said "Why you no like stroopwafel?" I told her I had some at home (which was true, a Dutch friend having gifted me some for my birthday a few weeks before). "Ahhhh!", she said, as though I'd solved the great mystery of why anyone would refuse a stroopwafel.
