Vintage Dress shoe appreciation, tips, maintenance and advice

Been away for a few weeks, traveling for a family reunion in Texas. Of course I hit the thrift shops looking for shoes, but came up empty handed.

Back home I finally got around to repairing my Cheaney Veldtschoen rainy day shoes. The heel on the right shoe fell clean off last September while I was walking home one day.

Previously I took the shoes to my usual cobbler. They said the rubber was so old and stiff that it would come off again, and they wouldn't just glue it back on for me. So I took the shoes back and finally got around to gluing the heel back myself. I put in a bunch of stainless steel nails to help hold it in place, and nailed the other heel for good measure.

My cobbler is probably right that the heel may just come off again later, but I only wear these shoes a few times per year. If the glue and nails give me a bunch more wears then that should be good for another few years.

Day 2 of a course organized by the American College of Trial Lawyers. It's the first time they're running this program in Canada. It's been a very interesting learning experience for me as most of my faculty are some legendary American trial lawyers. Always important to absorb how people do things differently in other jurisdictions.

And yeah, only lawyers would run a 3 day course during Mothers Day weekend.

Final day of the course run by the American College of Trial Lawyers. Today is the mock trial so have to dress somewhat conservatively.

A vintage Seiko dated 1967, the year my late father came to Canada.

And some vintage Canadian made Dacks with the perfect balanced cap toe.

Just grabbed this pair of Allen Edmonds from a online seller, the shoes are on the way shipping to me. The model code is 353 with no name writen, I checked few catalog and find the model from 1964 catalog "The Cayuga" with the model code is 4353, anyone have an idea of 3 digits model number?

They only way I know is to email Cheaney with photos and model info.

These are 1970 Florsheim model 31836. These were a thrift store find years ago.

Here's another unworn pair. These are black Yumas from 1963. In general, I'm not as big a fan of the Yuma as most, because I'm not impressed with the quality on the 80/90s examples we usually see. This earlier example is a much sharper execution.

A little sunshine really brings out the beauty of these Florsheim NSTs. Andrew Morden brought these back with double JR soles, new French cuffing, cat paw heels, and toe taps.

Received and treated the MacGregors. Took a moderate amount of darker brown polish off and replaced with Saphir medium brown. I really like the copper color. Looks to be 1979 from coding.
I felt like I was taking a chance on this in 11C because I'm typically a 10.5D-11D and in some vintage brands 11.5C. After reading @wasmisterfu post on the 0 last from 7/11/21 and considering the cotton drill forefoot, I took the chance that it would not be too narrow and that the drill would be more forgiving if needed. I am happy to report it is an excellent fit. Thank you to the community as a whole, as well.
Btw, can the cotton drill be cleaned? Should it even be attempted? I just sprayed some Renovateur as best I could.
