The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

:inlove: I was never a fan of the Yachtmaster until this one was released. To me the Yachtmaster was just a dressier Sub (with a platinum or gold bezel) that wasn't as water resistant. I'm not saying this new version is a tool watch, but this dispenses the blinginess of past models giving us a...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Congrats! I just happened to be surprised by my AD, when he showed it to me and said it was for sale. I hadn't looked at a ND Sub in years. However, It has really grown on me. It's leaps and bounds in terms of quality in terms of bracelet, clasp, and endlinks of my first 2 Subs in the 90s...

Didn't know you had a Submariner. Is it new to the collection? I picked up a new ND Sub last year and really like it!

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Overall, the Laureato looks great in rose. However, I'm just not a green dial (or blue dial) on a rose gold watch kind of person. I'd prefer a black or chocolate brown dial with rose sports watch.

I guess you were wearing it "Andy Warhol Style," as he was famous once saying, "I don't wear a Tank watch to tell time. In fact I never wind it. I wear a Tank because it's the watch wear."

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

You're welcome. I'd definitely suggest trying both on to see which is really the best fit for you. I checked EWC's website and they don't have a polar 16570 right now. I'd certainly be happy to meet up with you and let you try on both of mine, but I know you want the white dial, and I think the...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

I think I bought mine a little before one had to establish a relationship with an AD unless you wanted a steel Daytona. With my BLNR, I called a few local AD, most didn't have one. The one place I called where a friend had referred me, didn't have one, but they offered me 10% off on a polar...

I would just say, the larger indices are probably truer to the original Sub vibe, and maybe a tad more tool like by improving visibility. The original Subs had big hour markers - they only got smaller in the 1980s. - but that's just a small difference of opinion.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

When I bought my BLNR in January 2015 from an AD, you could still get 10% most models, like a Polar Explorer II or Sub ND at a few dealers. However, I couldn't get a discount on the BLNR as it was still a relatively new and popular model. Both versions of the Explorer II are great. I have...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

All are good watches, but my vote is for the 124060. The DJ was simply never a piece that truly interested me. It's a nice watch, but I'm a sports watch guy when it comes to Rolex. The only DJ I ever owned was a Oysterquartz DJ. I liked that one a lot because the case and bracelet were...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

My first Rolex was purchased in 1984. It was a 16750 GMT Master. They didn't have one in stock, and had to order it. Back then discounts were easy to get on all Rolex watches in the US. I asked for a discount and they gave me 25% off the $1,325 MSRP. Steel Daytonas were $1,100 and the most...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

Well, I'm not sure I'm a goody two-shoes :rotflmao:I just never really had any reason to think about money laundering. I am familiar with the idea of watches as currency, to the degree I know many of his have heard the stories in the past, or perhaps seen the discussion on this thread a while...

I didn't know that. I always presumed the people that bought at crazy high prices were just speculators, trust fund babies who just need the latest and greatest for their social media, or newbies with a lot of money who should have asked for advice from more seasoned watch fans.

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

You must be referring to older models, and even then, they are listed for more than what their MSRP was when new. I didn't see any current 41mm ceramic Subs for less than MSRP. The video was amusing, but anyone who was paying 5 to 10 times retail is just an idiot. The people I know that own...

Very interesting version of the Ellipse. I've seen several variations in the past, but not this one.

Thank you! I was a huge fan of VCs offerings in the past, especially pieces from the 90's and early 2000's and then things really changed. Into the mid to late 2000s when they discontinued the 2 register 37mm Historiques chronograph and replaced it with a watch that used the same Lemania based...

The Watch Appreciation Thread - Part two (Rolex, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, Jaeger LeCoultre,

That's one where I really like the yellow gold version with the darker dial a bit more than the platinum. I'm hoping to see one when they arrive at boutiques later in the year. TBH, I've liked the gold versions of their recent releases more than the platinum versions, as I find many of the...

I couldn't agree more. I like the bezel profile, lugs, and dial far more on the past version of the Santos Dumont. The current Santos Dumont is nice, but there isn't a version of it that I actually want to own.
