Bought a pair of Drugstore Jodphurs in shiny calf. I assume the “welt stitching” is merely decorative?

The cobbler at B. Nelson insisted they are Goodyear welted, but I was incredulous. I would have guessed Blake stitched.

There's also some mystery surrounding the question of the full canvasing of jackets

I'm not a huge boot guy, but have some Saint Laurents and remember them being touted as Goodyear but to GG's point, I've had SA's from the HS empire tell me that the suits or blazers are half or fully canvassed depending on mood or day. I'm never quite sure myself so have given up.
That said, I'd say that my SLP boots are exceptionally comfortable and have stood up to the test of time, so perhaps they are Goodyear welted? IME Celine uses similar if not the same construction methods across the board as Hedi-era SLP.
Hopefully you don't have to resole too soon to find out more definitively.

I believe they are likely Blake Rapid. I haven’t tried taking out the insoles to check, but I think the outside stitching is real and yet the Italians don’t do a lot of Goodyear.

If the pinch test is anything to go by then I feel safe saying my Celine suit jackets are fully canvassed.

Pretty strongly confirmed the Drugstore Jodphurs are in fact Goodyear welted. Apparently, the stitching at the waist is too far toward the edges to be Blake Rapid. So says a second cobbler.

Sorry if this is a dumb Q, but would Celine be able to do alterations for items bought elsewhere? I got the pinstripe suit off Porter and wondered if Celine’s tailors would cover basic hemming and shortening sleeves.

Not a dumb question but normally if it was bought elsewhere they won’t cover alterations. I had this experience with a couple fashion houses.

Good to know. My main concern would be maintaining the intended Celine shoulder structure when shortening the sleeves at the shoulder, if that makes sense.

Afaik you can bring items in store even if you bought them somewhere else.
I bought some pants secondhand and they agreed to alter the length in store.

Ask your local store if they do it tho

Take to a good tailor. Does not need to be the store’s and the store’s is not anything special. Also, they may simply contract it out anyway.

To Dawnwolf’s point, I’ve also had Celine alter items that were purchased elsewhere. I think they’re technically not supposed to but if you ask nicely the store employees might help you out. I have a good relationship with not just my SA but pretty much all the employees at my local boutique which helps when you need some strings to be pulled.

If you have a relationship shouldn’t be a problem, but if you’re coming in for the first time to the boutique and not purchasing anything they might stonewall you. They know good tailors so you can be confident in the alterations, that said, if you’re in the know in your area you should be able to find a good tailor in the particular city. Either way it won’t be gratis unless you’re a Celine baller in which case you probably wouldn’t be asking here. ;)

'take it to a good tailor' is such a nothing thing.
you only know if they're not good AFTER they've f*ck*d your item up.

I used to have a good relationship but my SA got promoted to sales manager and moved to a new city. Each time I go in since then has been a rando SA. I do have a good tailor I’ve been using for 12+ years now. Thanks all
