Jackie, I like your humor.
Favorite movies mean ones that I can watch time and again without losing any of the original thrill.
My favorite movie of all time is Gladiator. Having loved Roman history and military tactics, the costume design, script, and range of emotions in the movie just made me appreciate the film more.
I freaking love Gladiator. (And cue the "Do you like movies about Gladiators?" jokes).
Over the last 10 or so years, the movie has aged tremendously well. Especially on Blu-ray. It still looks better than almost any movie that's come since. And it's just so damned entertaining. Also a big fan of the Roman history angle.
People like to criticize the movie for its over-the-top dialogue, etc., but to my ear, it sounds a lot like the dialogue in the old-fashioned sword and sandals movies. (It also sounds like the stylized/classicized dialogue in Game of Thrones, which somehow never seems to come under fire for its hamminess).
Finally, Gladiator features Russell Crowe at his most badass. Which is always a good thing.
