Mentors

I've been a fan of the site for a long time and finally decided to post. From the threads, I am well aware that there is disproportionate amount of successful individual roaming around on these boards so I figured this is the right place to ask about mentors. For the longest time, I hoped I would come across a mentor a la Robin Williams to Matt Damon in Good Will Hunting. Unfortunately and I may partly to blame, I've struck out. Friends provide some mentorship and guidance but as you can imagine it is piecemeal. Is there anybody in your life that you don't necessarily want to become but desire to be of that ilk? If so, how did that person enter your life? Is it possible to active seek a mentor out? I know there are career mentorship programs. However, I am referring to a more holistic mentor that is go-to in almost all personal matters and life advice.
