Hi,

I'm new to classic menswear and have some good cool suit combinations and some good warm suit combinations.

The problem is I have some stuff that gets ridiculed here and I'm slowly learning why. I get excited when I find an expensive and well fitting item at a thrift store near my place and often buy on impulse.

I'm going to list a few quandaries I have and hopefully somebody is bored enough to answer.

1. I have a very dark grey (probably charcoal) Zegna sport coat that is heavy (wool/cashmere). Can I wear this with medium grey donegal tweed trousers?

2. I thought olive would be a good choice for linen trousers. I thought i could match navy and grey sport coats with it. Now im learning this isn't good at all. If it's alright ..... would dark brown suede derbies work? I also have dark grey derbies.

3.

1. I can’t see why not.

2. When you say "learning", do you mean someone told you that you’d committed a style faux pas? If so, that person could be the one with a problem. I’m not a fan of olive trousers, but the combination doesn’t sound disastrous.

Of course, it depends on context. For instance, I wouldn’t wear the combinations you’ve described to my place of work, but that’s because it’s stuffy.

Would you be willing to post some pictures of yourself wearing these combos here (you can always edit out identifying details)?
