Shoes for flat feet

So... I've got flat feet, which makes it incredibly hard to buy shoes.

Shoes whose length works often fit poorly in the waist area (too snug). If I try sizing up, slipage starts to occur. I tried some of the more generous fitting shoes like Aldens, but there's still too much gap between the quarters. Without going full bespoke, what do you think are the best options for me (flat feet, high instep)?

Have you tried different lasts and widths in Alden? Can't imagine a last more suitable than barrie. E and D are the most usual, but I believe a- EEE can be ordered without surcharge in most stores.
(990, 9901, 975, 9751, and probably a bunch of non cordovan shoes too)

Absolutely correct, shop about until you find some that are comfortable and I believe that you can also get inner soles to help further.
