I mean…they’re worth whatever a buyer is willing to pay for them. But, yeah to my way of thinking the seller is being very optimistic with the asking price. There are no footbed images, so hard to guess how ”worn“ these really have been.Hi All,
Seems a lot of people buy second hand shoes here? I don't have any experience in doing so. I'm not into vintage and the usual "savings" amounts haven't been enough to convince me to go 2nd hand. Either way...
My brother found a pair of C&J Cottesmore Jodhpur boots. I hate to discourage him from taking an interest in footwear..but ...I have my doubts here and there..
Seems these things were manufactured in 2004 (from what I see on-line, maybe I'm missing something). Looking at the archives it seems when they retailed for around 600 and could be found for 400 on sale. The seller is asking 200...which doesn't seem outrageous.. but they are 20 years old and who knows what the interior is like. One point of scepticism is that I've heard the cork board takes the foot's imprints on them..and that imprint stays no matter how often the new owner wears them?
They seem in decent enough shape from the photos. I don't see too much visible wear and tear. Some wear on the inner lining (from pulling them on I'm guessing). A scratch on the right toe box that looks to be superficial and could probably get worked out. They look a bit dirty as if just tossed in a closet long term perhaps. Obviously been worn more than a few times.
They have the rubber soles (combat soles?). I don't have any shoes with such soles. How worn down are these things? How much longer would you think they'd last? And what does it take to replace them? Is it a complete breakdown like a re-soling with leather? I don't know what full re-soles cost in the US (my brother's location) but they cost me 250-300 in my European location. . Would it be about the same for the combat soles? This is another part of my skepticism, if he's spending 200 on the boots, and another 250 to get them re-soled after a month, he could just get a new pair of Carmina Jodhpurs for about the same cost..
Any positives or negatives you can think of (both with 2nd hand purchases and as to the condition of the particular boots)that I could mention to him would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
